Engagement Photo Tips & Tricks

You have the ring, the adorable proposal story, and have possibly already celebrated with an Engagement Party - next comes the photos! We have compiled a list of some of key things to remember before you take these memorable snapshots!

  • Find a photographer! Many photographers will offer a complimentary Engagement Photo Shoot with your Wedding Package. If you have your eye on a photographer who does not, be sure he or she caters to the look you are going for. All photographers are different, so it is very important to do your research.

  • Pick a place that is close to your heart or represents your personality. If you love the outdoors, perhaps a wooded area, or if you adore the city, propose the idea of taking the photos in the middle of all the action! Some couples even choose to go back to the location of the proposal for these photos. Another great idea is have the photographer come right to your home - this is where you are most comfortable, and that certainly shows through in the photographs, plus, it is completely natural!

  • Choose your outfits. Be careful not to match, but ensure you do compliment one another! Make sure your outfit goes with the scenery as well. Solid and neutral colours are best, and can be paired with coordinating colour tones, and remember, when it comes to accessories, less is generally more!

  • Make sure to clean your ring! Not only is it going to be a centrepiece for the entire outing, but you want it to be extra shiny on your finger and look even more luxurious in photos.

  • Book a Makeup Trial. Use this as an excuse to try out your wedding makeup! This way you will be able to explain what you are looking for on your Big Day, and you will also see how it turns out in photos - a WIN-WIN we would say!

  • Props are great! Cater to your personality, and create a backdrop that really describes you. But, be careful not to overcompensate with props, remember that you and your partner are the focal point!

  • Come prepared! If you have not met with your photographer before the shoot, come ready with pictures you like and samples so they can recreate them for you! We highly recommend trying to schedule a meeting with the photographer beforehand - it gives you both a chance to explain your vision, and the photographer will offer suggestions on how to make it possible.

  • Relax, and have fun! Not everyone is comfortable in front of the camera, but focusing on each other certainly makes the experience more authentic and beautiful. Be sure to relax, and smile, LOTS!

These are just a few things to keep in mind as you prepare to take your Engagement Photos! Don’t forget that these photos can then be used in many different ways. Some couples use them as Thank-You’s for Engagement Parties, or even invitations for the wedding. Be sure to frame them in your home, so you can remember that experience for years to come!
