Wedding makeup helps to make you look extra angelic on your Big Day. With all the attention on you, the kisses and photos, it can be a big risk to try and handle your own makeup on that day, and we highly recommend looking into having a professional step in. With all eyes on you, it’s important to make sure you are looking immaculate, and feeling just as beautiful on the outside as you are on the inside. We were able to sit down with a local makeup artist, Lauren Stanko, to discuss some very crucial details about your Big Day. Not only is Lauren a sweetheart, but she makes sure you, as a client, feel special and completely catered to.

The Low-Down

Who she is: Lauren Stanko
How long have you been in Business? 6 years
Formal Training: Makeup Artistry at St. Clair College
Personal Makeup Style: “I love it all! From soft and clean, to dark and vampy - even colourful on occasion!”
Perks of the Job: Watching lots of YouTube tutorials to stay on top of the latest trends, and stocking up on lots of makeup!

Why did you choose to go into makeup?

“I feel like I have a creative and colourful mind. I enjoy making people feel beautiful and seeing themselves in a different light.” She went on to admit that most people who don’t wear makeup everyday are blown away by how they look with all the makeup on.

Favourite Part about working with Brides and Wedding Parties

“Because I travel to the client, I get to share a small, but pivotal part in a person’s very important day! It’s usually the girls and/or guy hanging out, reminiscing about old times, and watching the Bride open her gifts from her soon-to-be spouse.” We’ve also witnessed these types of moments and they are so much fun!

Are wedding makeup trials necessary?

Stanko says, “This one is entirely up to the Bride. I would definitely recommend it if there is time! It does allow the Bride to see how she will look on the Big Day, and to switch things up if she wants a different look.” Trying on fake lashes, matching the correct foundation, and getting the overall look and feel just right is a huge bonus as well, to ensure everything is in perfect order for the Big Day.

Best Skin Prep Advice for Brides

Exfoliate, Moisturize, and repeat! “Get into a routine a couple weeks before the Big Day - exfoliating will help remove the dry dead skin cells sitting on the top of your skin, and the moisturizer will penetrate deep into the skin to keep it looking smooth and plump.”

Listen up Brides!
Lauren is full of useful hints and tricks for the big day, and her best advice is to not do anything too crazy just before the wedding - such as invasive facials or treatments that could cause unwanted breakouts or skin irritations. Stick with routines and products you know and trust!

It was so great hearing an insider’s look into such an integral part of your Big Day! Lauren is so sweet, and we love her bubbly personality and her ability to make everyone feel like a close friend! You can reach Lauren by email at lauren0088@hotmail.com or on Facebook
